Made for

Articles, manuscripts and documentation with code that runs inside them, written in a designed editor instead of markup and build steps. What you see is what you export: predictable, clean and reliable.

The name

Yes, papering is what you do to walls, and papering over the cracks is what you shouldn't do to research. Paperings does the opposite: every number, table and figure stays enclosed with the code that made it, so nothing gets papered over. Read the rings as a circle around text, code and data. The wallpaper is optional.

Requires

macOS 26.5 or later. An iCloud account for syncing and sharing is optional.

Export

PDF and HTML in five designs each, Word, Markdown, Quarto and BibTeX.

Code

Paperings sets up Python on first use. R code uses an R installation from CRAN or Homebrew. Without either, code runs in a built-in WebAssembly runtime.

Data

No account, no tracking, no analytics. Paperings goes online only for what you ask of it and for a daily update check.
